Hi, I'm Andro :) have fun looking at my page, however boring my posts are. |
If you guys have seen my google+ and/or facebook post, then you have an idea of what I’m going to talk about right now. The late Steve Jobs just won something to the ring of being the most influential person in the video game industry. REALLY? What exactly has he done? Now, of course, this isn’t something that is accepted throughout the industry - well, at least I hope not. No offense to Mr. Jobs, but this is just ridiculous. He’s a pretty great guy, in terms of his vision and what he has accomplished with Apple and Pixar. But that’s it! He had little to no impact in the video game world. I don’t even remember him talking about any video games that Apple directly, or at least partly, developed in his many, many key notes. If you read the article, the author pretty much sums up his and his company’s contributions to the gaming industry, which is little - very little. Mobile gaming on the iphone is what comes to mind, I guess. See, I even had to guess as to what exactly they mean by impacting the video game industry. If he impacted it that much, I shouldn’t even have to think about what kind of impact his company had in the industry.
The guy is getting so much recognition just because he died, I would not be surprised if he wins the Nobel peace prize next year. I don’t hate him, but he really doesn’t deserve this much praise and adoration, especially when that praise is misplaced. Go ahead and praise him for what he was able to do with Apple, he deserves it and I’ll even join you. But that is where it ends. How the heck does the creator of Mario, Zelda, and Donkey Kong lose as the most influential person in the gaming industry? Sure, Shigeru Miyamoto might not be the most influential, but he’s up there for sure, and he’s definitely more influential than Steve Jobs.
